Scrappy Strings

A young lady is going to receive this lovely quilt her Grandmother made for her. You guessed right, she's moving into a big bed.
It was quilted  E2E (edge to edge) with flowers and butterflies. The variegated thread shows up beautifully in the solid sashings and border, back is a solid blue thread.

It was a bright sunny morning, so the quilt pictures appear a bit washed out.  And on that note here is what is happening with real flowers at our back door.

We are back to seasonal temperatures, so after several days of 25C + temps. The growth of things is again slowing down, and hopefully no harm will come to precious fruit trees that show buds beginning to swell

And the Winner Is....

So I went to the 'random number generator.org, put in the number of comments and voila the name next to said number of the day is Linda W.  in Surrey, B. C.
Linda was notified, has sent me her postal address. And that's another Blog Party.
I appreciate all the comments, I hope those who have decided to follow along with the blog are also
nervey enough to comment now and again.
Well,  Linda I am not the fastest one off the block but never fear, I hold to my promises.  I usually manage to get to the Post Office once a week....sometimes this week the package will leave Ontario for points west.  I lived in North Delta for a few years, so I am kinda sending this to my old stompin grounds.   (grin)

Another Finish

Actually two recent finishes. Both these quilts were inspired by Sharyn Craig.  If you haven't heard of her, you really need to check her out.  She often posses the question "What If?" If you are into using up scraps, she's a wonderful resource.  I am presently working on one of my own, using her methods.
I am hoping to get at least to the flimsy stage by the end of the month.

Both quilts are lightly quilted, with an 'open' pantograph.

Wow

Wow lots of folks like the colour green.  I like it too.  I have very little in my wardrobe, unless you count ear rings..but I have 4 green quilts, have made 5 green quilts...and working on another one with lots of green.   My first quilt is a small yellow and green log cabin.
Do not have a picture of that one...at least I can't find a picture.  I know where the quilt is though  :)
Then there's this basket one.   I purchased a kit, one winter when I was depressed.  Trust me it's very green, check out the back.
,

This  twenty patch was a 'find'  there were about ten completed blocks when I found it for the pricely sum of $2.00
The back on this one is a hodge podge of left arounds...mostly yellow.

This also is made from left over blocks....read the details here

Remember to leave a comment  to qualify for the  'green's....see the previous Blog Hop post.
Hope your Saturday is as good as mine...which is very fine.

Celebrate. Blog Hop Party! St. Patrick's Day

Blog Hop Party with Give-Aways
Did you know that in Newfoundland and Labrador, St. Patrick's Day is a public holiday?  I didn't. I also didn't know that in Montreal they have Paddy's Day parade....something that they have been doing since 1824.
"The 188th Montreal St. Patrick's Day Parade is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the corner of Fort and Ste. Catherine and will proceed along the main thoroughfare until the corner of Phillips Square and Ste. Catherine."
My eldest DS is joining a family with Irish roots, when he says "I do" later this year.  So, when  I saw
this Blog Hop Party celebrating St. Paddy's day, I thought this will be fun.
The way it works....
You need to leave a comment, to qualify for a 'give away'.  The give away  from this blog,  will be a bundle of (what else) green FQ's plus a wee surprise.
The Party begins March 17 and continues to Mar 23, after which a random draw will result in a winner.
Then you can click the Party Banner, to take you to the list of other blogs participating.
Let the Party begin....

Winter and Summer

We have been experiencing another blast from Father Winter. I watched it snow while I quilted this little Quilt, which celebrates winter. There is a second batt in the body of the quilt to facilitate extra 'poofy'. I believe this extra batt made for some thread issues, so I changed thread mid stream and all ended well. Apparently I was using a thread recommended for piecing....I have used it before.
This one should be finished today.  It was snowing while I worked on this one.  But, it had me thinking about a forth coming wedding in August...wondering if the mother of the groom (me) would be able to wear flip-flops.(grin)

I had to do some frog stitching on one side of this quilt.  I didn't notice the fullness, did not like the way it looked.  If I am not pleased with the result how can the client.
More on this one that later......

Happy Tuesday,

Birthday

I had an extra wonderful day recently.   I have had a number of them.  This one started with "Good Morning Happy Birthday! have wonderful day,  here's your coffee" and  next to me were stacked new quilt books from my Guild's library.  Oh and then phone calls.  I so love the Birthday phone calls, Mom first, everyone wishing me more Birth Day celebrations in the future.   I missed one call from a friend in Germany, but middle DS talked for an hour so I did get caught up if in a round about fashion:))
I love getting those wishes.  I intend to make use of them. A wish from a friend is the best thing to receive.

There were Flowers delivered all the way to the Attic  :) There was a toy, laid gently on my keyboard in the afternoon (Ipod Nano) and invitation for a short road trip via a few fabric shops to a shoreline town with a lovely hot tub & pool facility, for the next day.  Just what a Pieces needs in the depth of winter.

We out ran a snow storm on the way back, just as it got totally too ucky for man or beast to be out and about.
Live is good.
Happy Sunday,
gudrun
then today happened...the cat ate the ear buds from the ipod...and I shattered the one and only coffee pot in the house
